Essentiale Max is a herbal medicine used in liver diseases. It reduces the patient’s subjective ailments, such as lack of appetite, the feeling of pressure in the right epigastrium caused by liver damage as a result of an incorrect diet, and the effects of toxic substances or in the course of hepatitis.

Active substance: Phospholipidum essentiale

Composition
The active substance soybean phospholipids containing: (3-sn-phosphatidyl)choline. One capsule contains 600 mg.
the other ingredients hardened fat (Witepsol W 35), refined soybean oil, α-tocopherol, hydrogenated castor oil, hardened fat (Witepsol S 55), ethanol 96%, ethylvanillin, 4-methoxyacetophenone.

Shell: gelatin, titanium dioxide (E171), yellow iron oxide (E172), black iron oxide (E172), red iron oxide (E172).

Dosage

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, the usual dose is:

Adults and children over 12 years of age:

  • 1 capsule 3 times a day.

Capsules should be taken during meals, without chewing (with, for example, a glass of water).

The length of treatment is not limited.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents
There is insufficient data on the use of Essentiale Max in children under 12 years of age. Therefore, Essentiale Max should not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Warnings
  • in case of intensification of existing symptoms or appearance of other symptoms, please contact your doctor or pharmacist,
  • the use of Essentiale Max cannot replace the exclusion of harmful substances from the diet that cause liver damage (e.g. alcohol),
  • in chronic hepatitis, the use of supportive treatment with Essentiale Max is justified only when the patient feels an improvement in general well-being during treatment.

Essentiale Max contains soybean oil

Due to the content of soybean oil, the drug may rarely cause severe allergic reactions. Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to peanuts or soybeans.

The drug contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol), less than 100 mg per 1 capsule.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Soybean products are often used as a food ingredient and so far no adverse effects on pregnancy have been observed from their use.

However, the results of animal studies are not enough.

Therefore, the use of the product during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.

Driving
Essentiale Max has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Overdosage
Cases of overdose with Essentiale Max have not been reported so far. If you take more than the recommended dose of Essentiale Max:

the side effects described above may be intensified.

Interactions with other drugs
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Before using the drug with anticoagulants, consult your doctor.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

  • an allergic reaction such as erythema, rash, urticaria, pruritus, gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, loose stools, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort may occur.
