When not to use Ibuprom?

  • If you are allergic to ibuprofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine and to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),
  • if you have ever had symptoms of allergies such as runny nose, hives or bronchial asthma after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
  • in patients with active or past gastric and / or duodenal ulcers, perforation or bleeding, including those occurring after the use of NSAIDs,
  • in patients with severe liver failure, severe renal failure or severe heart failure,
  • in patients taking other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including COX-2 inhibitors (increased risk of side effects),
  • in the third trimester of pregnancy,
  • in the case of a hemorrhagic diathesis.
  • if you suffer from lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease,
  • if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction after taking acetylsalicylic acid,
  • if you have diseases of the digestive system and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease),
  • if you suffer from high blood pressure and / or cardiac dysfunction,
  • if you have kidney problems
  • if you have liver problems,
  • if you suffer from blood clotting disorders,
  • if you have active or past bronchial asthma or symptoms of allergic reactions in the past; bronchospasm may occur after taking the drug,
  • if you are taking other medications (especially anticoagulants, diuretics, heart medications, corticosteroids).

There is a risk of gastrointestinal haemorrhage, ulceration or perforation, which may be fatal and which may not necessarily be preceded by warning symptoms, or may occur in patients who have had these warning symptoms. If gastrointestinal haemorrhage or ulceration occurs, treatment should be discontinued immediately. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially the elderly, should inform their physician about any unusual gastrointestinal symptoms (especially bleeding), especially at the beginning of therapy.
Concomitant long-term use of various painkillers may lead to kidney damage with the risk of renal failure (postalgesic nephropathy).

Use of the drug by dehydrated patients (children and adolescents) increases the risk of renal dysfunction.

Taking anti-inflammatory / painkillers such as ibuprofen may be associated with a slightly increased risk of a heart attack or stroke, especially when used in high doses. Do not exceed the recommended dose and duration of treatment.

Before taking Ibuprom, you should discuss treatment with your doctor or pharmacist if:

  • you have heart problems such as heart failure, angina (chest pain), you have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, you have peripheral arterial disease (poor blood circulation in the legs due to narrowing or blockage of the arteries) or if you have has had any stroke (including mini-stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA))
  • you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, a family history of heart disease or stroke, or if you smoke.

Higher doses and longer duration of treatment than recommended should not be used. If symptoms persist, worsen or do not improve after 3 days, or if new symptoms occur, contact your doctor.

Serious skin reactions, some of them fatal, including exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, have been reported very rarely in association with the use of NSAIDs. The greatest risk of these serious reactions is when initiating therapy, most of the time within the first month of taking the medicine. Use of the drug should be discontinued at the first symptoms: skin rash, mucosal lesions or other symptoms of hypersensitivity.
This medicine belongs to a group of drugs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) that can impair female fertility. This effect is temporary and will disappear after the end of therapy.

If you have difficulties becoming pregnant, consult your doctor before taking ibuprofen.
Consult your doctor, even if the above warnings apply to situations in the past.

Children
The drug is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

Other medicines and Ibuprom
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, and also about any medicines you plan to take.

Do not take Ibuprom together with other drugs from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors such as celecoxib or etoricoxib), other painkillers or acetylsalicylic acid (in painkilling doses). Concomitant use of Ibuprom with these drugs increases the risk of side effects.

Ibuprom may influence the effect of other medicines, or other medicines may influence the effect of Ibuprom, for example:

  • Medicines with anticoagulant activity (i.e. blood thinning / preventing blood clots such as aspirin / acetylsalicylic acid, warfarin, ticlopidine)
  • medicines to lower blood pressure (ACE inhibitors like captopril, beta blockers like atenolol medicines, angiotensin II receptor antagonists like losartan)
  • diuretics
  • corticosteroids (such as, for example, prednisolone or dexamethasone)
  • methotrexate (an anti-cancer drug)
  • lithium (antidepressant)
  • zidovudine (antiviral medicine).

Some other medicines may also affect or be affected by the treatment with Ibuprom. Therefore, before taking Ibuprom with other medicines, always ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Ibuprom is not recommended during the first two trimesters of pregnancy due to the lack of data on the safety of ibuprofen use during this period.
  • The medicinal product should not be used in the third trimester of pregnancy, because ibuprofen inhibits uterine contractions and may delay labor and prolong its duration, premature closure of the Botalla ductus arteriosus.
  • The medicinal product should be used in pregnant women only when strictly necessary.
  • Few studies have shown that ibuprofen is excreted in breast milk in a very small amount (0.0008% of the applied dose). As so far no reports of harmful effects of the medicinal product on infants have been reported, it is not necessary to stop breast-feeding during short-term treatment with ibuprofen at doses used to treat pain and fever.

Edema, hypertension and cardiac failure have been reported in association with NSAID treatment.
Taking medicines like IBUPROM may be associated with a slightly increased risk of heart attack (heart attack) or stroke.

Side effects are rare in the case of acute drug use.
Elderly patients are at an increased risk of side effects from ibuprofen than younger patients. The incidence and severity of side effects can be reduced by using the lowest therapeutic dose for the shortest possible time.
