Mucosolvan is an OTC drug used in acute and chronic lung and bronchial diseases with a disturbance in mucus secretion and with impediment to its transport.

Active substance: Ambroxoli hydrochloridum

Composition
  • The active substance is ambroxol hydrochloride. 5 ml of syrup contains 30 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride.
  • In addition, the drug contains: hydroxyethylcellulose, liquid sorbitol, non-crystallizing, glycerol 85%, benzoic acid, acesulfame potassium, strawberry flavor PHL-132200, vanilla flavor 201629, purified water.
Dosage

Always use Mucosolvan exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. The usual dose of Mucosolvan is:

Adults and children over 12 years of age:
10 ml of syrup 2 times a day

The dose is recommended in the case of acute inflammation of the respiratory tract and in the initial treatment of chronic conditions, in the first 14 days of treatment.

children 2 – 6 years old 2.5 ml 3 times a day
children 1 – 2 years 2.5 ml twice a day

The above dosages are recommended in the initiation of treatment; dosage may be halved after 14 days of treatment.

Mucosolvan syrup can be taken with or without food.

Do not use in children without consulting a doctor.

If symptoms are not relieved by taking Mucosolvan during acute respiratory diseases, consult your doctor.

If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 4-5 days, please contact your doctor.

If symptoms are not relieved by taking Mucosolvan during acute respiratory diseases, consult your doctor.

If you use more Mucosolvan than you should:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you take more than the prescribed dose of Mucosolvan.

So far, no specific symptoms of overdose have been reported in humans. Based on cases of inadvertent overdose and / or reports of misuse, the observed symptoms correspond to the known side effects of the drug at the recommended dose, which may require symptomatic treatment.

If you forget to use Mucosolvan:

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible.

Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Take the next dose at the usual time.

If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Do not use Mucosolvan

  • If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ambroxol hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of Mucosolvan;
  • If you have hereditary intolerance to any of the ingredients of this medicine (see section “Important information about some of the ingredients of Mucosolvan”).

Warnings

Take special care with Mucosolvan

  • If you have severe kidney problems or severe liver failure, consult your doctor before taking Mucosolvan.
  • If you experience changes in the skin or mucous membranes, stop taking Mucosolvan and see a doctor immediately. Very rare cases of severe and sometimes life-threatening drug reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a severe condition causing the death and peeling of the epidermis) and toxic leaking epidermis (a drug reaction in which large pieces of the epidermis separate from deeper layers of the skin. The condition can also affect the eyes, mouth, throat and bronchi).

Use of other medications

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription.

No clinically significant adverse interactions with other drugs have been demonstrated.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

Mucosolvan is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first three months of pregnancy.

Mucosolvan is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women as ambroxol hydrochloride passes into breast milk.

Driving vehicles and operating machinery
There is no evidence that the drug affects the ability to drive and use machines.
No studies on the effects of the drug on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Mucosolvan

If you have been diagnosed with an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking the drug.

5 ml of the syrup contains 1.2 g of sorbitol, which corresponds to 4.9 g of sorbitol in the highest recommended daily dose (20 ml). Patients with fructose intolerance should not take the drug. The drug may also have a mild laxative effect. Caloric value of 2.6 kcal / g of sorbitol.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Mucosolvan can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If any of the following side effects occur, stop taking Mucosolvan and seek medical attention immediately:

  • an allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue and / or throat (angioedema). This can make your throat feel tight, have difficulty swallowing and breathing.
  • Sudden allergic reactions affecting the whole body (anaphylactic reactions, including anaphylactic shock).

The frequency of these side effects is unknown.

In addition, the following side effects of the drug have been reported:
Common (less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 patients treated):

  • taste disturbance (e.g. altered taste)
  • feeling of numbness in the mouth, tongue and throat
  • nausea.

Uncommon (less than 1 in 100 but more than 1 in 1,000 patients treated):

  • diarrhea,
  • vomiting,
  • indigestion,
  • dry mouth,
  • abdominal pain.

Rare (less than 1 in 1,000, but more than 1 in 10,000 patients treated):

  • rash,
  • hives.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

  • dry throat
  • itching
  • hypersensitivity reactions.
