The active substance in Smecta is diosmectite.
The other ingredients are glucose monohydrate, sodium saccharin, orange flavor and vanilla flavor.
To treat acute diarrhea in children over 2 years old, the dosage is 4 sachets daily for 3 days, followed by 2 sachets daily for 4 days.
For the treatment of acute diarrhea in adults, the average dosage is 3 sachets per day, for a period of 7 days. It is possible to double this dosage at the start of treatment.
For indications other than acute diarrhea, the average adult dosage is 3 sachets per day. Do not take a double dose of Smecta if you forget to take it. Smecta will not be used for more than a week without medical advice if symptoms persist or if they worsen: fever, vomiting, etc.
It is important to respect a minimum period of 2 hours between taking Smecta and one or more other medicines. Indeed, Smectais likely to reduce their absorption. Inform your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking any other medication.
