Strepsils Intensive
Strepsils Intensive is a strong pain reliever and anti-inflammatory lozenge for the short-term symptomatic treatment of a sore throat.
Strepsils Intensive tablets contain flurbiprofen which:
- acts on the main cause of a sore throat – inflammation,
- penetrates deep into the layers of the throat tissue,
- relieves symptoms of inflammation, such as: pain, difficulty swallowing, swelling of the throat,
- soothes and relieves pain just two minutes after application.
The drug is recommended in cases of ailments caused by both viruses and bacteria.
Benefits
Strepsils Intensive is indicated for the short-term symptomatic treatment of sore throat in adults and children 12 years of age and older.
Active substance: Flurbiprofenum
Composition
1 Strepsils Intensive lozenge contains the active substance: flurbiprofen and excipients: macrogol 300, potassium hydroxide, lemon flavor, levomenthol, glucose syrup, sucrose syrup, honey.
Dosage
- Side effects may be minimized by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to relieve symptoms. Treatment with Strepsils Intensive should not last longer than 3 days.
- Strepsils Intensive is intended for adults and children over 12 years of age.
- Recommended dose: one lozenge every 3 to 6 hours as needed.
- The tablet should be sucked slowly. The position of the tablet in the mouth should be changed while sucking to avoid local irritation.
- Do not use more than 5 lozenges a day.
- The drug starts working after just 2 minutes.
Strepsils Intensive should be used in accordance with the recommended method of use. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
Contraindications
- if you are allergic to flurbiprofen, acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or any of the ingredients of this medicine;
- in patients with a pre-existing or past ulcer of the stomach and / or duodenum, with severe inflammation of the colon;
- in patients with a history of allergy symptoms such as runny nose, angioedema, difficulty breathing (bronchial asthma), rash after taking acetylsalicylic acid or any of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, haemorrhagic or blood formation disorders related to previous NSAID therapy;
- in patients taking concomitant medications from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors such as celecoxib);
- in patients in the third trimester of pregnancy;
- in patients with severe heart, liver or kidney failure.

Warnings
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Strepsils Intensive.
- if you have or have ever had asthma or allergies;
- if you are already taking any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or acetylsalicylic acid;
- if you are elderly (you may be more prone to side effects);
- if you suffer from systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease;
- if you have tonsillitis or suspect you may have a throat bacterial infection (may require antibiotics);
- if you suffer from heart, kidney or liver disease;
- in patients with heart failure, after a stroke or at increased risk of disorders such as high blood pressure, diabetes or high blood cholesterol, or in those who smoke;
- if you have high blood pressure;
- if you suffer from persistent headache;
- if you suffer from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
- if the patient is in the first or second trimester of pregnancy.
While using Strepsils Intensive:
- At the first signs of any hypersensitivity reaction (rash, peeling, blisters) or other signs of an allergic reaction, stop using the spray immediately and consult a doctor.
- Report any unusual abdominal symptoms (especially bleeding) to your doctor.
- If there is no improvement or new symptoms appear, consult your doctor.
- Medicines such as flurbiprofen may slightly increase the risk of a heart attack (myocardial infarction) or stroke. Any risk is more likely with higher doses or long-term treatment. The recommended dose and duration of treatment should not be exceeded.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Before using the medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You should not take the drug in the last three months of pregnancy.
- Check with your doctor during the first six months of pregnancy or breastfeeding. Flurbiprofen belongs to a group of drugs that may adversely affect female fertility.
- This effect is reversible on stopping the drug. It is unlikely that the occasional use of Strepils Intensive will affect your chances of becoming pregnant. However, if you have problems becoming pregnant, tell your doctor before taking this medicine.
Interactions with other drugs
Please inform your doctor or pharmacist about all drugs you are taking recently, even those sold without a prescription. Especially before taking the drug, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following drugs:
- medications for high blood pressure or heart failure
- diuretics (including potassium sparing diuretics),
- drugs that reduce blood clotting,
- antiplatelet drugs and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs),
- anti-gout medications,
- other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or steroids (such as prednisolone)
- cardiac glycosides,
- cyclosporin (a drug used to suppress the immune system)
- phenytoin (a medicine to treat epilepsy),
- methotrexate (an anti-cancer drug)
- quinolone antibiotics,
- tacrolimus
- zidovudine
- lithium (an antidepressant).
Taking medicines like flurbiprofen may be associated with a slightly increased risk of heart attack (heart attack) or stroke. This risk is increased by long-term ingestion of high doses of the drug. Higher doses and longer treatment times than recommended should not be used.
Strepsils Intensive contains sucrose. In case of intolerance to certain sugars, please inform your doctor before taking the drug.
This drug belongs to a group of drugs – non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which may adversely affect female fertility. This effect is temporary and will disappear after the end of therapy. If you have difficulties becoming pregnant, contact your doctor before taking flurbiprofen.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Strepsils Intensive can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If any of the following symptoms occur, stop treatment and contact your doctor.
